Windows’ newly released Windows 11 operating system (OS) became available in October 2021. This new version of Windows has many new features and a familiar feel, but is it worth downloading?
Learn more about the pros and cons of the Windows 11 update from the IT professionals at Blade Technologies, Inc.
Windows 11’s Strengths
The latest version of Windows offers many benefits to its users, especially those looking for a customized and enhanced computer performance.
Reach New Speeds
In comparison to the Windows 10 OS, the Windows 11 is noticeably faster. This is because Microsoft designed this operating system with a new memory management system that prioritizes your programs running. This lets your computer focus its attention on saving your battery for only the most important tasks, while still letting you seamlessly jump back and forth between applications.
Customize Your Experience
For those wanting more features for customization, Windows 11 delivers. You can now customize remote desktop backgrounds and your desktop theme.
A new feature to Windows is the Snap layout tool. You no longer have to spend time arranging your windows to your needs. Now, window positions will be easily accessible via the Snap tool.
A Recognizable User Experience
The user experience (UX) design of the Windows 11 upgrade is very similar to the Windows 10 version. Minor adjustments have been made to the aesthetics of your desktop, such as moving the start menu to the center of your toolbar. Open application windows now have rounded corners, instead of the sharp corners present in Windows 10.
Not tech-savvy? Don’t worry - the familiar UX allows Windows 10 users to easily adjust to Windows 11.
Improved Security
Windows 11’s Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and Secure Boot technologies make this the most secure version of Windows to date. The TPM securely stores your vital information, such as passwords or encryption keys.
On system startup, the secure boot firmware will investigate and authenticate each piece of boost software. This makes it so that the system boots only software trusted by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
Windows 11’s Weaknesses
Although Windows 11 has many strengths, it’s not perfect. Here are a few of the weaknesses we’ve found in the latest version of Windows.
Bugs
As with any new generation of technology, Microsoft is still trying to manage reported bugs in Windows 11. Users report a variety of issues, ranging from difficulties with the system search capabilities to flawed user interface elements.

System Requirements Limit Compatibility
According to Microsoft’s hardware requirements for Windows 11 OS, systems must meet these standards:
- A processor that’s 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
- Two or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a chip (SOC)
- Over 64 gigabytes (GB) of available system storage
- TPM 2.0
If your system does not meet these requirements, you may need to consider upgrading your device to run Windows 11.

How to Download Windows 11

Once in the Settings App, you’ll then navigate to the Update & Security tab. Then click the Windows Update tab. To view the latest information about available software updates and bug fixes, click “Check for Updates”.
You will then be able to upgrade your device to Windows 11 if your system meets all Windows 11 system requirements.
